NYC ALL STARS SKATE JAM RECAP

On Saturday, April 2nd, Rodney Torres hosted the “NYC All Stars Skate Jam” at Garden Skate.  The event commemorated Harold’s birthday and benefited the non-profit HHF.

The turn-out was amazing, the skating was ridiculous, and the overall vibe was super positive and fun.  You simply can’t beat 3 hours of energized shredding with NYC’s finest pros, ams and legends, along with a a huge product toss and Best Trick contest; which Andre Beverley won – Congrats!

Once the skate jam was a wrap, the 21+ crowd flocked to The Blind Barber on NYC’s Lower East Side for “Harold’s Birthday Bash” which featured drink specials, plenty of good times and beats by DJ Smoke L.E.S. and DJ Hiro.

All donations and proceeds raised during both events will help the HHF with its on-going mission of using skateboarding as a vehicle to provide inner-city youth with valuable life experiences that nurture individual creativity, resourcefulness and the development of life skills.

Special thanks goes out to all the sponsors including Zoo York, 5boro, SHUT, DC, Hopps, After Midnight, Naysayer, Raised Fist, New Breed, Rockstar Bearings, UXA, Open Road of New York and NYSkateboarding.com.

HHF DOUBLES WOODWARD SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS IN 4TH YEAR OF PROGRAM

For the 4th straight year, the Harold Hunter Foundation (HHF) awarded skate scholarships to deserving NYC youth.

Doubling the number of scholarships that were awarded last summer, this week 16 local skaters headed to Camp Woodward including Andre Beverly, Kadeem Brown, Melquan Chisolm, Eamon Doster-Schellenbaum, Joel Green, Talik Harden, Brian Ibarguen, Mory Kamara, Jhoao Lopez, Steven Lora, Enrique Martinez, Sebastian Pena-Campodonico, Val Perre, Michael Rivas, Anthony Rodriguez and Khyle Williams.

The scholarships were generously donated by Camp Woodward and Red Bull, with extra expenses covered by money raised throughout the year at various HHF events.  In addition, complimentary gear to outfit each camper was provided by DVS, Triple Eight, Zoo York, CCS, SHUT, Spitfire and Thunder.  Campers also received special edition HHF decks designed by Eli Gesner.

Special thanks goes out to the following HHF friends for their support in helping pull it all together: Billy Rohan from Open Road, Michael Cohen, and Brian Deka Paupaw from the Hoods to Woods Foundation.
